* What's New (Blog): Online Expository and Narrative Writing Course
Welcome to Tote Bag Teaching Homeschool Support. I'm Karen, and I bring more than a decade of experience teaching students from pre-k to college, both homeschooled and traditionally schooled. I have been a classroom teacher, a tutor, a scorer and scoring supervisor on rubric-based writing assessment projects. From the Urdu-speaking kindergartner to the sixth grader preparing for Catholic school entrance, it has always been a pleasure to work with homeschooled children. I am in Seattle and now also online, offering support for all levels of composition and creative writing, as well as for general elementary subjects.
Some resources are free: You are welcome to download lesson plans or check out tutoring ideas or curricula reviews. Other services, like individualized writing coaching, are available for a fee (after an initial free trial). Support is customized: You may find it helpful to start with your child's own work: You may upload essays and content-area writing samples in order to receive rubric-based evaluation and teaching strategies. If your homeschooled child would benefit from individual writing tutoring, I have 'virtual classroom' space at two online tutoring sites. Tote Bag Teaching also offers a literature-based online writing course for intermediate grade students who enjoy crafting their own stories.
I believe that the way to build an internet clientel is by helping people. Everyone is part of a network -- even those that may not be in the market for a lot of tutoring just now. And so I'm offering an introductory special for online homeschooling families: two free tutoring or coaching sessions. Further sessions may be scheduled as needed. If you live in Washington State, I can also provide end-of-the-year evaluation and other services to help you stay in compliance with Washington State homeschooling laws.
